How can I stop my appointments from defaulting to recurring?

If I "categorize" an appointment, it automatically then changes to a
recurring appointment and I have to manually go in to take all recurrences
off. Is there a way to change the default setting? I have Outlook 7. Thanks.

New Dell machine? If yes, then uninstall the outlookaddinsetup.exe from
Add/Remove Programs.
