hi folks, i do a lot of artistic type of stuff and publish on the web. i've
recently found some of works that i created being digitally copied and used
by others without my permission. i know it's easy to copy an image on the net
but i've been told that there is a way around this that would digitally lock
the image and stop anyone else from copying it. anyone out there know how???
any help would be appreciated. thanks

While there are ways of preventing a right click and save picture as feature
on web sites, anything that is displayed can be copied (granted not at too
high a resolution) by using the screen capture feature of Windows. If you
don't want anyone to copy the images for use, put a copyright watermark in
plain view across the image. This will deter many of the people who would
use screen capture.

Since I don't use Publisher for web development I don't know if there is an
easy way to prevent the right click and save in a Publisher developed web
page. Other, higher end programs do feature this restriction as an easily
added code.

Publisher 2003 and 2007 code already stops right click, save image by
default with the use of VML.

Nice to see you on this group...

What LVTravel said is accurate, and Pub 2003 and 2007 already stops right
click, save as an image. I also agree that posting a low resolution image
with a copywrite across it, is about the best you can do. If you post it on
the internet it can be copied one way or the other.

Popping in here to whole heartedly agree with Rob, if it's there, they will
steal it. In my case, even a watermark copyright symbol with my name does
not stop them. Either they simply don't care that the "C" with my name is
across the image, or they are using PhotoShop to smudge it out. It's a
loosing battle. Think of it this way, your images are so fabulous that
everybody wants them and be flattered.......I guess.
Steal away.... at: www.catcorcilius.com (web site done with FrontPage)

Cat,

Why didn't you say you were using FrontPage? Of course you will stay with FP
vs. moving to Publisher 2007 for web building...as per you previous
question.

I'm thinking of doing another webpage, (genealogy). I really do like
Publisher 2007, it's user friendly and thought I'd check here first to get
some opinions about Publisher's web design capabilities. But I'm getting the
impression FrontPage would be a better program to use.

As a general rule, yes FP would be your best choice, especially since you
already own it and know how to use it. One final word of caution. If you do
build a site in Publisher and then want to switch to FP, you will need to
start over. The code is way different, and I have not heard of anyone that
has been able to satisfactorily import a Publisher web into FP.
