How can I stop WORD from losing my settings ?

I am running WORD 2002 on Windows XP.
I find that each time I open a new document, some settings I have made
keep changing.
It is always the same settings:AutoCorrect, AutoFormatAsYouType,
SmartTags, AutoFormat &BulletsandNumbering.

Where I have turned off all AutoCorrect & AutoFormat and Format >
Bullets and Numbering, they seem to turn back on by themselves.

Does anyone know how I can keep them off?

I prefer No autoformat, NO autocorrect, and NO automatic bullets &
numbering.

Someone is not allowing you rights to a file called normal.dot in which
these settings are stored. If you don't have rights to change it, it is not
being saved (as it would/should be) when you exit Word or restart your PC.
You need to have rights to it. Go to Tools-->Options-->File locations and go
to User templates. Find out where it is stored. You may want to change it to
a location on your hard drive, or a location to which you're allowed to save
files. Your IT department may be controlling this, or your permissions are
wrong on your PC.

My template is located at C\Documents & Settings\Owner\Application
Data\Microsoft\Templates.

How would I test to see if I have rights to change it. I would prefer
to do this before I moved it.

By the way, most of my settings do not change; it is only the ones that
I mentioned, plus one more I just throught of. This is the setting that
tells if you want a history of documents opened in the File dropdown
menu of word.

I'm sorry. I'm not very Windows-literate as I've never really had problems
with my XP. But, generally, if you can save a any other file to that folder,
then normal.dot should be being saved.
Also, when you close Word, if you are asked, you should say YES to saving
changes to the normal.dot (or global) template.
Perhaps your normal.dot is corrupt or your Word install is just bad, if
neither of the above help you. If so, then do Word troubleshooting outlined
at www.theofficeexperts.com/word.htm

Thank you!
I will study the site you referred to and will attempt to make the
changes they describe.
