How can I synch OneNote with laptop

S

Stan Winikoff

I'd like to synchronize OneNote between a desktop and laptop so that
wherever I go, I have the same information. We do not used MS Exhange
Servier but Novell 4.0. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Stan

1) Copy the contents of the "My Documents" folder to a
network share.
2) Use the Offline Files and Folders feature of Windows
2000 and later to keep copies of the files in sync
locally on each computer.
3) Point OneNote's "My Documents" folder to the offline
files using Tools | Options | Open and Save

I use Novell's iFolder to sync onenote between my tablet and office PC. This
is automatic and completely transparrent to the user. Just copy all your
onenote file to the iFolder directory and reconfigure Onenote to use this
as the default.

BTW the new peer-to peer iFolder is available free from Novell at
http://forge.novell.com/modules/xfmod/project/?ifolder

this will work fine and automatically

This doesn't work. See my other posts regarding OneNote with Windows 2k OS

Hi Thomas,

I opened a briefcase file on my laptop and pointed ON to it through
Tools/Options.../Open and Save. Then I copied the .one files from my PC to
the laptop briefcase via my home network. Then I use briefcase to update
the files. If you don't have a network, search the Help files for briefcase
where it explains all. This is exactly what briefcase is for!
To create a new Briefcase

1.. To open My Computer, click Start, and then click My Computer.
2.. Click the folder in which you want to create the new Briefcase.
3.. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Briefcase.

Hi Mike,

One of the reasons I upgraded a perfectly stable Windows NT service Pack 6a
OS to Windows 2000 now at Service Pack 4 was to use Offline Files with
Synchronization. This works perfectly with ALL other applications (including
Microsoft's) except for OneNote. I do not intend to revert to using
Briefcase just because Microsoft have written an application which does not
work with a a facility of the Microsoft operating system! Microsoft's own
Help regarding Offline Files and Briefcase suggests that you use Offline
Files when synchronising a laptop and server over a network. Again I will
post an answer when I receive a response from a Microsoft service request
which covers this topic

I checked out the link above. Could you explain what advantages does ifolder
have over synchronisation manager in Windows in this scenario? (there are
other posts on this subject for onenote that suggest synchronisation manager
can do the job)

thanks.
