common usage folks use them somewhat interchangeably, and also it is commonly specified as a requirement to achieve a specific
result, that it may not apply to
If you open the graphic in an application such as
http://www.irfanview.com and click on the information icon it will list a
'resolution' that gives the value of a current graphic. JPEGs are one of the formats that can store that value in the graphic
itself, but aren't required to.
