How can I transfer Access records from one computer to another?

I have just purchased a new computer and need to transfer old data records
from my previous computer onto the new computer. The previous records have
been kept on a copy of Access 2000; my new computer has Access 2003. The
records have been copied on an external hard drive, but will not transfer to
my new computer. What must I do to pull it off?

An Access database stores everything - Tables (your "records"), Forms,
Queries, Reports, VBA code, macros - in a .mdb file (or more than one
..mdb file if you've split the database).

You don't need to "copy the records" - simply use Windows Explorer to
copy the .mdb files which constitute your database (or databases).

Access2003 can read and use A2000 format databases; in fact, by
default it uses the A2000 format for new databases. No conversion is
necessary.

The only "gotcha" I can think of is that if you copy your .mdb file to
a CD or DVD drive, and thence to your new hard disk, it will be marked
as Read Only. You'll need to just view the file's properties in
Windows Explorer or My Computer (right mouseclick the file icon) and
uncheck the Read Only box.
