How can I troubleshoot "NO" documents opening?

Amir E.

Greetings;
My latest problem is that of not being able to open any of my office
documents of the "Microsoft Word" persuasion: i.e. I keep getting an error
message that states: "the file ______ is not available.", without any further
explanations and/or suggestions...!
How could I solve this issue?
Thanks a million.

What version of Word? For most (including 2007) the first step is to disable
the Office Plug-in in Norton AntiVirus if you're running NAV.

Dear "Suzanne";
Thank you for your prompt response to my problem!
The (Office/Word) version is 2002, and NO, I'm not running "NAV"!
You know, one strange & new thing that's also happening is: when
(frustrated) I go to shut-off "Word", the program asks me if "I want to save
changes made to THE GLOBAL TEMPLATE {normal.tmp}"; if I say yes, it comes
back with "....already exists, do you want to replace it?"...., to which if,
again, I say yes... it comes back with the whole business of it already
existing, and if I reply NO it won't let me close the program until I add a
"1" or somehow change the name...!
A nice mess, huh???
I don't know, it might even be a simple matter; however, because of my
ignorance or my "self-taught/trial & error" method of having acquired the
little knowledge I have about computers etc., it's looking like a frustrating
week-end.
Anyhow, I'd be eternally grateful for any/all help on this matter.

Respectfully;

Amir E.

It sure sounds like you have Norton Antivirus installed on your
computer. Use Windows Explorer or My Computer to search for the
OFFICEAV.DLL file on the hard drive (be sure to include system
and hidden files/folders in the search options). If you find it,
note the folder where it is located, and use the "regsvr32 /u"
method described in http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329820
"How to use Office programs with the Norton AntiVirus Office
plug-in" to unregister the DLL.
