How can I uninstall Word/Office XP?

Last Friday, I was defragmenting my hard drive when the
power went out. Since then, when I open Word, I get an
errror message saying that explorer.exe has encountered a
problem and needs to close. If I choose close, send
report, or don't send, the error Windos closes
momentarily and comes right back.

I tried to uninstall Office XP in Control Panel/
add,remove programs but I get a message "this patch
package could not be openned, verify...

Should I just delete it from Program Files?
