How can I update Templates

When I bought my Mac it had a trail version of Windows Office 2004. I have since bought Office 2008, put it on my computer--everything runs fine...however, the templates in Word 2008 are still showing the Office 2004 Test Drive User security feature... How do I update these templates to the 2008 version I own and can use?

Hi Truman,

Did you remove the 2004 Test Drive before you installed (or during the
installation of) 2008? If not, do this ...

Go to Applications/Microsoft Office 2008> Additional Tools> Remove Office.
Launch the Remove Office tool and run it to remove the Word 2004 Test Drive.

Still have the problem? Then I think what's happening is that Word 2008 is
accessing templates from your old Word 2004 My Templates folder. So ...

Use File>Open from within Word 2008 to navigate to this folder: Home>
Documents> Microsoft User Data> My Templates. Open each template
individually and do a Save As. Set the Format drop down to Word Template
(.dotx). The new templates should now be stored in your new Word 2008 My
Templates folder which, for future reference, is here: Library>Application
Support> Microsoft> Office> User Templates> My Templates) ­ unless you moved
them somewhere else. If all is well, you can trash the old folder.

I *think* that should do it.

Unless you save the template in a different location, templates are in
/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/User
Templates/My Templates/.


Use Word>Preferences>File Locations to change your "User Templates" folder
to that location.

If Office 2008 has installed correctly (see Beth's post) then your User
Templates location should already be pointing there. In which case, the
entry should be "blank".

If you wish, you can change that entry so that it "is" blank. Word 2008
should then remember where it is hiding its templates
