How can I view wmv files

Hello. Just got my mac yesterday and this is all pretty new to compared to a pc. I am having a small problem. When I receive an e-mail with an attached wmv file in it, I cannot open it. It just opens and shows jibberish characters. What do I have to do to view these wmv files on a mac. Thanks for your anticipated help.

Visit versiontracker.com, search for "VLC" (A free viewer for WMV and
other file formats), and download.

Save the attached .wmv file to your desktop, open VLC, and use its
File>Open menu to open the file. Or drag the app to your Dock, then drag
..mv files onto its icon in the Dock to open them.

Another option is Flip4Mac (also findable in versitontracker.com). It lets
you open .wmv files using QuickTime.
