How can I write a formula to automaticallycopy over text within an Excel spreadsheet?

I realize that this might be a terribly silly question but after two kids my brain is too fried to try to figure it out myself so I need help. I am on a Mac and I haven't used Excel for a few years. I am trying to create a Xmas budget spread sheet and I need help with getting the names to transfer over to a separate tab on the same excel spreadsheet. I cannot get any formula to work. Thankful for any and all help.

Very simple. On the destination worksheet, type an equal sign. Don't hit
enter, but switch to the tab containing the data you want, and then click in
the cell. Then press enter.
