How can one restricts the access level for a published project? So that only
the owner /creator of a project file should be able to modify his/her file &
it will be Read only for others. I have tried with different permissions but
not able to figure out much till now.Can anyone help me out?

I am using MS Project srever 2003 & Project Pro 2003.

Dale,i tried out the steps mentioned in the link but still the problem is
there.Any person other than the creator/owner of the project can still modify
the project. May be i am missing something.

In your original post, you mentioned that you have "tried with different
permissions" and that it didn't work. The FAQ assumes that you have the
default permissions in place in Project Server 2007 for Groups and
Categories. This being the case, I'm not sure I can help you much further
since I have absolutely no idea what permissions you changed. To help
yourself, you need to reset the default permissions and then the steps in
the FAQ will work. Hope this helps.

Dale,

I set the permissions to default manually by going through the admin guide.
Then followed your steps, but the problem is still there. Am i missing
something?

On another note..is there any way to set the permission to default
automatically? Or one have to deal with it manually?

Thanks,
Ratnadeep

What admin guide did you use? If you use the free download from Microsoft,
it does not fully document the default permissions. Without knowing
precisely what permissions you have set, it is impossible for me to
troubleshoot why my solution doesn't work.

The admin guide that comes with the product itself along with the other
guides. Are there any documentation available on the default permission level
for each user & group? If i get that then i would manually configure the
permissions again/ Or are there any process to set them back to default
settings automatically?

Ratnadeep,

In the absence of being able to know if your default permissions are
re-instated, you can try this:

Create a security category specifically for the project you want to
restrict access to. Set the permissions for pm's that should not have
write access to 'Deny' for the Save option. It's not the most elegant
solution if you have a lot of projects and a lot of project managers
you're dealing with, but it does work.

I use this method when I want to give a group of people read/write
permissions on a project. I allow the 'Save' permission for the people
who need edit ability, even if they didn't create the project.

Let me know if you want further clarification,

We fully document the permissions for every Group and every Category in our
Implementing and Administering Microsoft Office Project Server 2007 book.
It is available for purchase at:

http://www.projectserverbooks.com

You can also find this book at Amazon.com. If memory serves me correctly,
you are in India. Right? If so, the shipping cost may be cheaper through
Amazon.com.

As a stopgap measure until you get the book, you may want to follow the
advice of Aviva, who also replied to your message. Hope this helps.
