I replace a file by mistake. How can I recover the original file?

Try using (My) Computer or Windows Explorer or file search to locate a file
called backup of.....

This will not work unless you have file backup turned on in Word options.

Other than that, there is no easy way to do it.

You could try shutting down, removing the HD containing the user files from
the computer and attaching it to another computer (make sure you set and
jumpers on the drive correctly); install a disk editor on that computer;
search for and hand assemble the file. It's not a trivial exercise.
