How can team member create a new task in Fixed Work?

Hi, in case of team members cerate a new task under an existing project, they
can only specify "Start Date", "Finish Date" or "Total work". Finish date and
total work always impact eachother, ie. "total work = finish date - start
date" and vice versa. This creation works with when new tasks are Fixed
Duration.
Is it possible that resources are able to create a new task with fixed unit
attribute? i.e. "start date" "finish date" and "Total work" could be entered
independantly on <New Task> page so that a task may last 10 days long but
only 8 hours total work?

Thanks in advance,

No, team members cannot control or select the Task Type when creating a new
task. Doing this needs to be part of the project managers job after he/she
approves task updates from team members. This is why we strongly recommend
that you teach your PMs to accept all task updates from within Project
Professional 2007, rather than from PWA, and do it for one project at a
time. Since the PM can see the Task Updates page from within Project
Professional 2007, and can preview the impact of the task updates, the PM
can also do the following for each New Task Request immediately after they
approve the task updates for a project:

1. Set the Task Type for the new task as needed.
2. Set the Effort Driven status for the new task as needed.
3. Sequence the new task relative to other tasks in the project.
4. Set task dependencies on the new task with Predecessors and Successors.
5. Set the Units value for the resource assigned to the task, if different
from 100% Units.

From there, they can also go immediately into variance analysis to determine
where and why the project is off track, and then make plan revisions as
necessary. Hope this helps.
