How can User name appear in field on form on a Lan with Windows 20

We just converted from Access 97 to Windows 2000 and the access 97 files had
to be converted, and all went well, except one item. In the forms for input,
I used as for the field "Input by" the default "=Environ$("User")" and this
worked fine whenever a different person logged on their name would appear and
I locked that field so it couldn't be changed. That was Access 97; now with
the conversion Access does recognize this and I'm wondering what I can do to
reestablish such a field. The database is split with the back end on the
lan. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Duane, I'll give it a try. I am not a programmer, but self-learned by
using the Access 97 books, trial and error, etc. I have never used the
module area of the database so this should be worth a try. I'll let you know
how it works. Many thanks for a quick response.
