How can you "merge" two tables so that they become one?

Table A has 4 columns with data.
Table B has 4 columns with data.
Both are formatted exactly the same.
I want to merge them into one table.
The new table should function exactly as if the data were in the same table,
i.e., the data should be sortable as if it were one set of data.
Ideally, I would like to create "nested" tables that permit you to sort the
data alternatively (a) as a whole, or (b) within the nested sub-table. If
this isn't possible, I'll live with the first option described above. Above
all, the result must be stabile.

If the format of the two tables is the same in every respect (table width, column widths, horizontal positioning on the page), then
removing any intervening paragraphs should see them join and become one table.

Hi hoozieg,

There's no practical way I know of using Word alone. Your best option might be to copy both tables into Excel, so that they're
positioned as you want them, then copy & paste from there into Word.
