How can you see what data file is connected to a main merge docum.

When you open an existing main merge document, how can you see what data file
is already attached to that document?

Run a macro containing the following command:

Msgbox Activedocument.MailMerge.DataSource.name

Or, from the Tools menu, select Customize and on the Commands tab of the
Customize dialog, select the All Commands category and locate the
MailMergeHelper command and left click, hold and drag it onto a toolbar or
menu. Then, with the mailmerge main document open, if you activate the
MailMergeHelper, the name of the data source will appear under the Data
source section of the Mail Merge Helper dialog.

If you can somehow open MS Query to analyze the data you'll see all the
data that is attached to that document.

I usually do this in Word 2000 by clicking on the Query Options button
on the Mail Merge Helper window.
