How Color a cell quickly?

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC

The only way I know how to color text, it to manually go to the font color picker, choose red, and then click on the text in a cell. Very tedious if you want to click 400 cells in a 1000 cell column.

any way to create a quick red stamp?

And same question for make a quick color outline/border. thanks!

If the content of the 400 cells has something in common have a look at
Conditional Formatting in Excel Help. Otherwise you'll still need to go from
cell to cell to apply whatever formatting you require *or* select the 400
cells (using Command+Click or Command+Drag) & then applying the formatting -
but it amounts to pretty much the same thing if the cells aren't
consecutive. Even Format Painter of Paste Special> Formats won't save much
time if there's only the single change to be made to the cells.

If you want to colour just the occasional cell, go to view, customise
toolbars and click on commands, under format toolbar there is a light
shade and Dark shade that can be put on your toolbar in 2004 and prior. Not
sure about 2008. These are light grey and dark grey but you can make them
any colour you like. So if you are in a cell and want to quickly colour it
Just click on the shade in your toolbar.

Skin: I have 2004, and I have the "formatting" toobar always up. I don't see anything about Shade dark/light. Could you please screenshot that for me?
( I do see font color)

Thanks Bob, dang, no kind of quick way to stamp in a color or a back ground.

BTW - I know how to change text color. What about full cell color, and/or the cell border color. thanks!

Well, you can't very well automate/expedite something to much if there's no
consistency in what you need to do.

If Conditional Formatting won't fill the bill then use the Format Painter.

Select a cell that's formatted how you want the others then double-click the
Format Painter button. It will stay selected while you go down the column &
click each cell to be formatted the same as the first - drag to select
consecutive cells.

I don't know what more you can ask for
