If you'll use the Message space to fully describe the problem rather than
trying to cram it into the Subject field perhaps someone can help.

Provide as much detail as you can to include:

Whether this is happening in only one specific document or all documents,
What your specific update level of Office is,
What exact version level of OS X,
Where the insertion point is at the time or does it not matter,
Is this your own doc or did you receive it from elsewhere,
Any additional background information about the file.

I also can't use the "new comment" feature in Word for Mac 2008. The button
is greyed out, and I couldn't find the solution in a google search. Built-in
Word help equally unavailing.

I'm using Word 12.1.0 on Snow Leopard 10.6.1 (iMac 2.66 Intel Core 2 Duo, 4
Gb).

The most likely cause is that you're way behind on the Updates -- Since the
version you quote (12.1.0) there have been a number of updates released.

The good news is that the interims between 12.1.0 & 12.2.0 (SP2) have all
been rolled into SP1, so you only need it plus the latest 12.2.1 interim
release. Run Help> Check for Updates & follow the guidelines here:

http://www.entourage.mvps.org/install/update_steps.html

Make sure to Repair Disk Permissions & restart after updating & before
running any of the Office programs.

That worked. Thanx. I'm still not liking the new menus in Word '08, but
hopefully I'll get used to them.
