How come when I save my document and open it again it is read onl.

I have been creating documents and then saving them normally. When I go back
later on and add things or make changes, it tells me that the document is
read only. How can it be read only if I didn't make it that way? How can I
make to not be a read only. I have to keep resaving it under a different
name and then I have all these copies of the same document. This is pretty
frustrating. Can anyone help?

Hi C.L.,

If you're saving it to a CD that can be one reason.
If Word cannot delete the temp files it creates when you
close the file, that can be another reason for the file
to be 'in use'. If you're on a network drive you
may want to try to use the Tools=>Options=Save setting
for [x] Make local copy...
first. Also search for files named
~$*.do*;*.tmp
from Start=>Search and delete those files before starting Word.
