How configure IMAP account as default for emailing thru Word?

I use an IMAP account as my primary email account. It is configured as the
default account in Outlook. When I try to send email directly through a
software package, such as Word, the program attempts to send the email
through the "generic" email account (microsoft exchange server?). Is it
possible to configure this to send email through the IMAP account?
