How to create a local navigation bar, containing hyperlinks to
locations within the webpage, so not a link to another page?

How can I change the text (with the hyperlink to middle/top/elsewhere)
into a button?

Sorry, but I don't know. Perhaps Google for free JavaScript menus, or
buttons, or go to some place like http://www.htmlgoodies.com/ to figure out
the code yourself, or find a coding newsgroup and ask there. This is a bit
beyond the scope of this newsgroup. Good luck.
