How difficult is Project Server to Implement?

We just purchased the latest version of MS Project Server. I just
recently heard that it's a very challenging implementation process and
that our IT folks should attend training beforehand. I would
appreciate anyone's opinion on this....especially those that have been
through it. Thanks

Yes, the IT people should be sufficiently trained. However, given the
appropriate experience, the IT part is pretty easy, actually. The
documentation is full and complete.

The hard part is configuring, implementing, and exploiting from the
project management organisational perspective. IMO that is quite
complex and requires a proper "project" in itself to gain the benefits.
It is *not* an IT project (except that you are using a computer). It's
all about management and work processes.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Hi Jweber,

Try posting on the server newsgroup. Please see FAQ Item: 24. Project

I agree. The tool is just part of the problem. Defining and getting
agreement on a standard process and training the users is quite an effort in
a large group.
