Once upon a time there was an automated checker to help determine which
Office updates shd be installed (similar to Win update). It has either
disappeared or is hidden away somewhere. Plz advise. Thanx.

Hi Bob,

I'm not quite sure what tool you're referring to for
Office 2000. The MS Baseline Security Analyzer
http://microsoft.com/technet/security/tools/mbsahome.mspx
covers primarily Office XP and later among it's features
and MS System Management Server and other tools can do
that as well.

There are some 3rd party sites/tools that check.

Hi Bob: 'Check for Updates' is readily apparent but is NOT automated detection tool i remember from my youth. Many moons ago a
tool/process would analyze installed updates & recommend new ones with user knowledge of installed Office functions. How do i run
the tool ? Thanx. >>

Hi again Bob: apparently i did not describe the tool well. It seems that to download updates for Office 2000, the user must specify which components to check for before downloading. I remember however launching an automated checker which worked similar to Win Update by examining ALL installed components & recommending which updates are avail for download. This simplifies selection process but this "automated detection tool" (unrelated to security - i think) is not visible from Office download screens. Plz advise. Thanx

Hi Bob,

There was, at one point, an Office 2000 Service Release 1
update checker tool, but it didn't work accurately in
a number of scenarios. The 'security' tool actually
checks the 'baseline' installation level (i.e. currency
of the install) not just for security issues.

FWIW, keep in mind that the MS lifecycle timeframe
for 'regular' updates for Offfice 2000 has ended :(
