I was provided a copy of Office Professional 2007 for a college class that I
am taking and installed it on my desktop, however the desktop crashed so I
tried to install it on my laptop and it will not allow me to register or
activate the program because the one free activation has been used. Any ideas
how to get around this? Can I download the trial version and use that? Does
the trial version come fully unlocked?
Please advise.
1) If your copy was actually a "Trial", there is no legitimate way to
"get around" the "One Activation" limitation of Office 2007 Trial
Version..
2) I'm not sure about the number of times one may download the Trial
version and activate it. AFIK, one can only use the trial once. AFter
this, he must purchase it. But it seems to me that it would be "bad
form" to use Microsoft's trial software over and over by downloading
it till teh trial is over. It certainly sounds to me like you are
trying to get free software from Microsoft for personal use.
3) The Trial version is limited to 50 times of being started from the
Desktop, otherwise, it is "unlocked" by being Activated.
4) Since it cannot be activated more than once, the Trial version is
limited to 50 times of being started from the desktop if not
activated.
5) The trial version is also time-limited once it has been activated.
I think this time limit is 60 days.
6) Otherwise, the suite is fully operational.
If I were you, I would approach the instructor who gave it to you and
ask him/her what to do.
Maybe next time you will put it on your laptop rather than your
desktop.
BTW, Microsoft is giving generous price cuts to academic users at this
time. It might be possible to get Office HOme and Student for around
$50 from Microsoft. Take advantage of their generous offer while you
can. Microsoft is also offering generous price cuts to students and
teachers on their other professional tools at the present time. You
might let your instructors know about this.
