How do I add a caption to a photo in Publisher?

I've added a photo within a newsletter story and would like to add a caption
under the photo. Is this possible without creating a separate text box for
the caption?

No... you need a text box.

Why doesn't that option appeal to you?

Thank you for your reply. It's not an appealing option because I'm lazy. I
don't want to have to create a text box and group with the photo in case I
move the photo. It seems a developer would expect a possible caption anytime
a photo is used. To me, the photo and its optional caption should always be
one element.

Many "Photo" programs allow you to add text to the image then it will go
wherever the image goes
Publisher is a Publishing program not an image editing program.

Try Faststone (its free) or Photshop or whatever.

Workaround, create an Autoshape, fill, fill effects, picture tab, browse to
picture, right-click, add text.
