How do I add animation to the shape of photo?

I saw a pppt today in which someone put photos on each slide, and each photo
flew into the slide in pieces, then each photo reassembled itself - how do I
do this??

Unless they used a third party product for that, they may have followed this
approach:

1. Created pieces of the photo in an image editor, and reassembled the
pieces next to each other so that they look like a complete picture.

2. Animate each piece individually.
