Other e-mail programs let me add emotions (smiley faces) to my e-mails. Now
that I am using Outlook, I can't find a way to do that other than the usual
way, :), or :p, as examples. I am looking to add graphical expressions. Is
there a way or not. Thank you.

If you use Word as your editor when you type :) it'll convert to a smiley
face - the only way to do it with icons is using a 3rd party add-in.

Personally, I would avoid using icons - they don't work with many mobile
messaging options and can be annoying. Stick with the keyboard versions for
greatest compatibility.

I was told that I needed to use a 3rd party program as an addon.

It amazes me that Microsoft has yet to offer smiley icons for Outlook. I'm
not a programmer, but it seems to me that if they can create something as
complex as an operating system, they should be able to create emoticons
(other than :p style).

I think microsoft should listen to what it's customers want, especially with
all the FREE email companys getting better. If the free companys like google
continue to come out with Office compatable products, and start offering the
'fun' stuff such as emoticons for email, then why would I continue to pay for
office?
