How do I add more color categories to a calendar I have proxy for?

I am working with many calendar invites on the same day and want to color
code them. I don't seem to be able to add more color categories on a
calendar that I have proxy for. All the extra color options are grayed out.
Can you help?

What version are in you in? I'm not certain about 2007, but at least in 2003 or before, you can't. Each owner sets his or her own color preferences and a proxy, no matter what permission level, can't do it. Frustrating, isn't it?

Well, I was hoping that wasn't the case, but maybe it is in 2007, too. Darn!
Color coding would be so helpful. Thanks for the reply!

Thanks for replying, Diane, those are good questions! I don't think it's in
a public folder because she had to give me permission. But I should check
with her about what permission she gave me. Guess I need "all" or
"everything" or whatever word Microsoft uses for that! Maybe that will make
the difference. Thanks again!

I've been given "Editor" permission for the calendar...the highest she could
find. Unfortunately, the color options are still grayed out. I've added all
the extra colors to MY calendar, hoping that would help them show up, but to
no avail...

This is with 2007, correct?

You are limited to the categories set by the owner. If you want to add more
categories you would normally need to open each mailbox directly (ie, using
their username and password). Once the color categories are added you will
be able to use them.

However- try this work around: create an appointment in your calendar and
add all the categories you want to use to it. Copy it to the other calendar.
Categories not in the owner's master list will be white- ask the owner to
right click on the mailbox and choose properties, then upgrade to color
categories. Once they do this, it adds them to the master list and you'll
be able to change the colors.
