How do I add star to show upcoming slide is animated?

My PowerPont slides (in the preview bar to the left of the screen) used to
have a star on them so I would know that an upcoming slide was animated. The
star has disappeared. How do I add it back?

That was PowerPoint 2003. It displayed if you had a slide transition
applied. They're gone in 2007. If your transitions are set to advance
automatically, then you can see the timing in seconds on the slide sorter
view.

I see the stars in 2007 with either an animation or a transition. In fact,
I've had students suggest that there be two different symbols -- one for
animation, another for transitions. (I think that's a good idea.)

Anyway, I do see them in 2007 in both the slides pane on the left in Normal
(editing) View and in Slide Sorter View. In fact, I can't get them *not* to
show, unless I remove all animations and transitions.
