How do I assign code values to items in the character map?

I noticed that some characters in the character map do not have keystrokes
assigned; is it possible to assign these items combination keystrokes?
Moreover, the code values and application are different between office
products. How do I use a Word combination keystroke to receive the same
value in Excel? Thanks!

Of the different Office applications, Word is the most flexible with respect
to key assignments. Unless you add a 3rd party application, you're not going
to be able to replicate Word's functionality in Excel.

Word lets you assign one and two-character keystrokes to just about anything
you want, including values from the character/symbol map that Word displays.
Exactly how you do this depends upon the version of Word you're using.
