How do I assign someone a different work week-- 9 to 3.

I'm trying to use change working time to assign a part time employee work
hours from 9 to 3pm. However, it isn't cooperating.

Assuming Project2003 Desktop version
Go to the resource sheet, double click the resource name. Pull the workng
time tab and make change there.
Remember to highligh the entire column for M-F so all dates change.
Key in new hours as needed.

By default, a resource calendar will override a calendar assigned to a task.
Just to be sure, go to the tasks where the part time resource is assigned.
Look at the task information (I just double click the task), pull the
Advanced tab and look at the calendars drop down.

If it is "None" then there should also be a greyed out box next to it that
is unchecked (you can't change it). Project will use the project calendar
(default is Standard under Project/Project Information...).

If there is a specfic calendar assigned, then look next to the calendar name
and be sure the box named "Scheduling ignores resource calendars" is
UNchecked.

That should do it

Hi Jim,

I'm actually using Project 2007 and the changing work time is totally
different than any previous version I've used. I go to the resource sheet,
click on the name, proceed to "change working time". Once in here it is
totally redesigned. Ideally I would like to change someones work schedule
from the default of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM to 8:00 to 3:00 pm. There is no longer
a working time tab, instead there is a working time click button.

Thanks for your comments Mike. I think there is actually a bug in the
product. When I go to work weeks and try to add "part time" start: oct
22,2008 finish: oct 31, 2008 adn then go to DETAILS-- I select Monday to
Friday, then the third option of set days to these specific working times:
from 9:00 am to 3:00 PM then click OK>

Instead it sets the working time from 9 to 10am. I've tried this numerous
times and get the same results. Nothing will work. I'm doing this on
XP, when I switch to Vista it simply crashes during this operation.
Any suggestions.

Hello St. Marten,

After you enter the 3:00 PM press ENTER and confirm the time changes
before clicking OK. Also, make sure you have the service pack 1 and
the Infrastructure upgrade installed to Project 2007. See
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951547 for details on the IU.

See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949584/ for service pack 1.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
