How do I average and then get a standard devation in excel

This is my first time using Excel, and I'm having trouble with it. I have
alot of data to calculate, and I'm trying to cut short the time to do my
calculations and these are to get a mean (average) and then a standard
deviation.

Go to Tools>Add Ins then tick Data Analysis
Go to Tools >Data analysis, Descriptive statistics...you can get al

sorry to butt in here, but i don't have Data Analysis under tools / add-ins
.... is it a MS product or 3rd party?

It is the "Analysis ToolPak" in Tools | Add-Ins that you should 'tick'.
