How do I avoid "operation failed" toimport an excel file into proj

Connie

I am using Project 2003 and Excel 2003. I have created tasks in an Excel
spreadsheet comprising of the following fields:

Description
Start Date
Finish Date
Percent Complete
Resource Name
Notes

I am using the following commands:

File/Open/(Select my excel file)...then the wizard kicks in for mapping. I
map all the fields, Click on finish and get the following message "Operation
Failed"

If you are using SP3, try going to Tools-Options-Security and selecting the
"Allow Legacy and Non-default file formats..." option.

I just checked and I only have SP2 installed. Is this problem an issue that
was corrected with SP3?

Hi Connie,

Thanks for the additional information. Yes, there was a security
update in April which caused the problem with the "legacy" formats.
SP-3 (released before the update) with the option to allow legacy
fixes the issue.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

SP2 adds the feature to Project 2003 that prevents you from working with
alternate file formats with no way to turn this off within the program.
Installing SP3 adds the option mentioned to turn this off... I would suggest
downloading and installing SP3.

Hi All,

I just installed SP3 to try to get around this error. All MS-Applications
are showing at the SP3 level with the exception of MS-Project. It still shows
at SP2. And I still get the operation failed error. Did I miss something in
the application of SP3 or is there something else that needs to be installed
for MS-Project?

Thanks, Chuck
