how do I back up my emails

How do I back up my emails and other personal files in Outlook Express 6

program, not OE, so if the web site (by OE MVP Tom Koch) doesn't help you,
I'd suggest posting to a more appropriate newsgroup.

I already have that Chris but when I click tools/options there is no
maintenance tag so I don't know where to go from there. I found a .pst file
under Outlook in the local settings. Is this the file containing the
personal folders?

Yes, IF you're running Outlook. You said in the previous post you were
running Outlook Express 6. This newsgroup supports OneNote, and neither of
the other programs. I suggest you post to a more appropriate newsgroup
according to whatever program you're running.
