I have erased a CD. Now I'm attempting to burn Word documents to the CD. When
I insert the CD, I get to command or prompts. Can you help?

Thank you, JoAnn. I am using Office 2003. My Gateway laptop has Vista Home

prompts.")

Use Windows Explorer--not Word--and make sure that all documents you want to
transfer are CLOSED and not open in Word. Drag the files from their hard
disk location to the CD. I find it useful to open two copies of Windows
Explorer--one for the source location, and the other for the destination.
After dragging the files to the CD, here, at least (using Vista), when I
close the session (File - Close session), the files get written to the CD,
and you're done.

Thank you, Herb.
(1) Is Windows Explorer the same as Internet Explorer?
(2) How do I get into the hard disk to retrieve my Word document?
(3) My primary concern is a 200 page manuscript in Word.
Many thanks -

No, Windows Explorer is not the same as Internet Explorer. Windows Explorer
is the file system management/navigation program that comes with Windows.
Since you're using Vista, click the Start button, and start typing explorer.
Windows will show you Windows Explorer, Internet Explorer, and possibly
other matches. Click on Windows Explorer--it is how you display what's on
all of your disks--not just what's on your hard disk.

If you haven't used it before, you'll want to take a few minutes to acquaint
yourself with it. When you choose File - Open in Word, Word actually
displays Windows Explorer, only it's customized for Word. So, if you've
navigated there, you should not have problems with Windows Explorer.

"Windows Explorer" is what "Computer" (in Vista) or "My Computer" (in
XP) used to be called many versions ago (and you can still find that
name buried within the system here and there), and folks who have been
dealing with Windows for many years still call it that, even though
there's no hint to the new user where to actually find it.

You want Start > Documents > [other folders, if necessary, inside
which you've saved your documents] > the files you want to copy.

Insert a new CD in your CD drive. (Are you sure the one you're trying
to use is _re_writeable?)

If the CD drive doesn't show up almost immediately on your desktop,
then click on the drive in the same (My) Computer window.

Drag the files in question to the CD icon.

Either they'll copy right away, or you'll have to answer some
questions (as JoAnn notes).

Thank you, Herb.

I wish they'd never stopped using File Manager- or at least used that name
for the new program. Microsoft seems to enjoy giving things names that are
confusing.
