how do I bi-colour a letter

Word is really not a good choice if you want sophisticated text effects.

You can:

1. Use WordArt to create the letter, then select one of the two-colour fill
effects: click Fill > Fill effects from the drawing menu.

2. Download a typeface that's designed for chromatic effects. (Adobe's
FontFolio has some.) These work by providing sets of two fonts designed to
be overlayed.

Thank you Jezebel for your answer.

I tried WordArt but not very successfully.
Will try Adobe's Font Folio.

Your reply was much appreciated.
