How do I block certain email senders

D

dustbunnie246

I am using Outlook NOT Outlook Express. How can I block certain email
senders and have the email sent back to them telling them their email address
is blocked ?

Which version of outlook?

FWIW, sending a reply back is a useless waste of time and can result in your
address being put on spammers lists or used to send spam. Blocking senders
is useless too - spammers change their addresses too often.

What I really would like to do is block certain individuals, people I know,
from sending me email. I can deal with spammers but sometimes you get
personal mail from some people you really don't want contact with - I would
like to find somehow to return their email saying "your email is blocked from
this address"

Thanks !

Add it to your Blocked Senders list. By the way, since you put your email
address in the clear in your prior message, you've gauaranteed you'll start
getting a LOT of junk mail.

Brian .... in OUTLOOK there is NO *blocked senders list* ..... this is the
problem. We need something in Outlook to allow us to block senders as I
understand you can do in Outlook Express.

If you are using Outlook 2003, right click on a message, select Junk
Mail->Add to Blocked Senders List.

*scratching some more* ... LoL !!!!!! ........ THANKS Milly ! ...... okay,
next question ...... how do I know what Outlook I'm using ?? - don't seem to
be able to find any version #. When I right click on a message, select Junk
Mail I can either *add to junk senders list* or *add to adult content senders
list* ...... no *add to blocked senders list* ...... is this telling me I
DON'T HAVE Outlook 2003 ?? ..... I guess it probably does eh ?? One more
question ...... is this *add to blocked senders list* just a list which is
kept on MY computer or will it send the email back to the sender with the
message that they have been blocked from sending me mail?? I can remember
years ago that, that type of message could be sent but I don't know what
email program it came from.

You are correct. You're using Outlook 2002 or earlier.
One more question ...... is this *add

will it send the email back to the sender with the message that they
have been blocked from sending me mail??

The OL 2002 and earlier equivalent of the Outlook 2003 Blocked Senders list
is the Junk Senders and Adult Content Senders lists Those files are text
files on your computer kept in the (hidden) folder
%AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook. You can choose "Add to Junk Senders". The
addresses you add to either list will not be notified. Moreover, the
default action for these lists is simply to color the subject line in the
message list. One color will be chosen for addresses found in the Adult
Senders list and a different color for those in the Junk Senders list.

THANKS Brian .......... I guess the answer then is to upgrade or switch over
to OE.

I've also been having problems with this.
I've done the "right click on a message, select Junk Mail->Add to Blocked
Senders List" bit in a friends Outlook and then tried to send that person an
email.

The email appeared in their Inbox.

I've also clicked the checkbox that says "only recieve emails from the Safe
Senders List" and sent an email whilst not in that list and the email got
through.

Is there something that switches these options on and off, because it seems
all the options in the Junk Email Options are being ignored.

Thanks for any help you can give us,
Colin

I have been trying to receive emails from KitList that I mistakenly added to
my enemies list. And even though I took it out of my enemies list and added
it to my frieinds list they are still going to spam. Any suggestions on how
I can correct this?

Outlook does not have a folder named "Spam". If that's the folder in use,
then the problem is with your antispam software rather than Outlook.

When I am viewing my "Inbox", I right click on one of the Email items to
block the sender. I get the dropdown "Add sender to Blocked Senders List";
does this merely move the sender to the "Junk Email" folder, or does it
totally block the "Sender" so that I do not receive any Emails from the
Blocked Sender?

I think some of the (posters) are confused regarding blocking "Senders". I
think you can block a sender, but you can still Email them. Is this corrrect?

I have Otlook Express and still do not know how to get to a blocked senders
list. Right clicking on the message gets me nowhere, and also if I click on
"Message" with the message highlighted the "Blocked Sender" button option is
not activated. Can anyone help?

If you have Outlook Express, you're in the wrong newsgroup. So why did you
hijack someone else's thread? This is for Outlook. Try an Outlook Express
newsgroup.
