How do I brighten my background? It's already not on washout.

I inserted a background into my word document and it is not as bright as the
original. I already took it off washout, but it is still not as bright as I
would like it to be.

Edit your picture first, then insert it.

Graphics inserted in the header/footer view will always appear washed out.
That's a function of the header view. If you want to check what the printed
document will look like - see the Print Preview.
