how do I calculate hours spent x an hourly rate?

I'm attempting to caluclate an billing amount based upon hours worked x an
hourly rate. I can get the hours; I can't get the math to work. What am I
doing wrong?

What formula are you using? Also, check under Tools menu and click on
Options. There's a tab 'Calculation' that lets you change from Manual
to Automatic. If you somehow get switched to Manual, all of your
formulas won't automatically calculate. Kind of annoying.
