how do I change a constraint without effecting other tasks?

You didn't say what constraint in what version of project so let's assume
Task constraint in any version. Changing the constraint won't recalculate
anything unless you change a value (Units, Work or Duration) as well. Then
what gets changed is exactly the same as doing the same thing manually. So,
test manually then implement in VBA.
