how do i change a field's data type when importing excel files?

I know there was an issue with changing a field's data type when importing an
excel spreadsheet into Access 2003 and that it was fixed with the Access 2003
hotfix package on March 17, 2004. After I installed that hotfix it was
working great; however, now that I have Office 2003 SP1 installed, the error
is back and I can not change the data type on any of the fields I am
attempting to import, not even the first one, via the spreadsheet import
wizard (screen 4). Is there a fix for this?
