According the the Seventh Edition of the Turabian Guide, the now-approved
style for footnote numbering is non-superscript, and with a period following
the number. The only suggestion I've found is to delete the number in the
footnote, then re-type the number along with a period. Losing the
auto-numbering capability isn't really something I want, since that seems
that would lead to trouble in moving or re-ordering footnotes. I'm guessing
the answer may lie in tweaking a footnote field, but...
