how do I change my ruler back to inches (from ch?) in Word 2003?

I just had Word 2003 installed on my computer and the ruler is defaulted to
some unknown scale. When I bring up the tab dialog box, the units are listed
as "ch." I want to set the units to inches. The measurement setting in the
options>general tab is set to inches, and the cursor position is displayed in
inches
