How do I change the linked photo content - like in WordPerfect

I bailed outta WordPerfect because of jumbo problems with linked photos &
linked Excel spreadsheets. Now I find I can't update (change) my linked
photos in Word. I'm forced to re-insert and re-format the dozens of photos
that go into each of the large report I generate?!? That can't be! As a side
note the reason I desire to continue to "link" my photos is because of the
unreasonable file sizes that result from embedding the photos.

Under Tools>Options>General, is the 'Update automatic links at Open" box
checked? And, under Tools>Options>Print, is the "Update fields" box
checked?

Does the picture update when you do a Print Preview or select the picture
and press F9.
