How do I change the speed of a fade?

I am doing a basic slide show and the fade time between slides is much too
fast, even on the slow setting. I just want the slide to appear more slowly.
I am using a "fade through black" setting, but the pictures just come up too
fast. It's almost jarring, even on the slow setting. HELP!!

If each slide is a different image, you could use animation instead of a
transition. Select the image, choose the Entrance>Fade animation and choose
Very Slow. Then, select it in the task pane, choose Timing and in the Speed
text box, enter any number of sections that you want, 10 seconds for example.
(That might put people to sleep though!)
