How do I clean up the transition in a PPT slide to Photo Story 3?

I'm using Photo Story 3 to create movies that show within a PPT 2003
presentation. Right now the PPT slide starts and finishes the movie with a
black square. How can I smooth that transition so that the Photo Story movie
starts cleanly within the PPT slide?

Simply insert a black shape behind the movie. Fade in the black shape and
start the movie. The black square over the faded in black shape will be
less noticeable than an abrupt appearance of the movie frame.

Think of it as dimming the house lights prior to starting the movie.
