How do I clear a visual RUNTIME library error?

L

Likilynn

In MS Word, I continue to receive the following error msg: "Microsoft Visual
C++ Runtime Library" Runtime error. It contains the location of the
program:c:\program files\microsoft office\office 10\winword.exe.
"abnormal program termination"

The file was sent as part of an email, which has since been deleted. The
error msg displays after Word has been running for a few minutes.

What should I do to clear it ? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!:)

Hello,

This behavior may occur when Word macro security is set at
the High security setting, and a Word add-in file contains
a macro that is designed to run automatically.

I would request you to please open Word in Word safe mode
and check if you receive the same error message:

1: Steps to work in safe mode:
==========================
1. Click on start.

2. Click on run.

3. Type in winword.exe /a (note there should be a space
between exe and a).

4. Now click on ok.

5. This will open Microsoft word blank document.

To determine the name and location of the add-in file that
contains the auto macro, follow these steps:

1. On the Tools menu in Word, point to Macros, and then
click Security.

2. Select the Medium security setting, and then click OK.

3. Quit Word. Quit Outlook if you are using Word as the e-
mail editor.

4. Restart Word.

5. When the macro warning appears, the first line displays
the file name and location of the file that contains the
auto macro.

6. Click Disable Macros.

7. To restore the High macro security setting, follow
these steps:

8. On the Tools menu, point to Macros, and then click
Security.

9. Select the High security setting, and then click OK.

If you still face the same issue I would request you to
move the startup folders to different location since most
often this error message pops up because of compatibility
issues with startup items. Let us follow the procedure to
move the startup folders.

Accessing Word startup folder:
==========================
1. Click on Start.

2. Choose Run.

3. In Run dialog box type in "%appdata%".

4. Choose "Microsoft" folder "Word".

5. Choose the folder.

6. In WORD folder open STARTUP folder drag these files and
on to Desktop. (If any)

7. Close the Window.

8. Restart word normally and check if word opens normally.

Accessing Office startup folder:
=========================
1. Open My Computer.

2. Double click on c: drive.

3. Open Program Files folder and open up Microsoft Office.

4. Open Office10.0 folder and look for folder named
startup.

5. Open it and if you find any files here, drag these
files and on to Desktop. (If any)

6. Close window.

I was able to find an article documented in our knowledge
base, which outline your issue.
