How do I close a document without closing Word?

D

DocDiv

When I have a single document open in Word and then close the document, the
whole program closes. This is something new (ie., today) and I want to know
how to reset my options so this doesn't happen any more. Thanks.

You should have a second set of "Restore/Minimize/Close" buttons at the
upper-right of your application window. The top set is for Word itself. The
second set only appears on the "last" document (when it's the only document
open) and is below the Word set.

It depends on the version of Word you are using. Word 2002 and 2003
both have a Close button (x) in the upper right corner below the Close
button for the application.

If you are using Word 2000 and have more than one document open then
use the only Close button available and it will close the document.
Once there is only one document open then you'll see two close buttons
and the lower Close command will close the window.

Or, of course, you can always use File/Close or customize your
toolbars and add the Close command.

For Word 2000 - 2003 the Restore/Minimize/Close button for the
document are only visible if you are using MDI. Otherwise only the
Close button for the document displays.

Also, I believe you are referring to Word 2000? Word 2002 and 2003
have the Close button regardless of the number of open document
windows.
