How do I close a project that has been finished?

I need to mark a project closed on Project server. No resources should be
able to modify the project after it is marked closed? Any ideas?

If you want to leave the project in the Project Server database, you can do
the following:

1. Open the project
2. Click Tools - Build Team from Enterprise
3. Set the Booking value for all of the team members to Proposed and click
OK
4. Click Collaborate - Publish - New and Changed Assignments

The above set of steps will remove the tasks for this project from each team
member's timssheet in PWA. To distinguish closed projects from production
projects in the Project Center views and Portfolio Analyzer views, you might
also ask your Project Server administrator to create a custom enterprise
Project outline code called something like "Project Status" that would
include values like: Planning, Production, Cancelled, On Hold, Closed. To
specify the status of each project, you would then need to complete the
following steps:

1. Open a project
2. Click Project - Project Information
3. Set the Project Status value for that project and click OK
4. Click Collaborate - Publish - Project Plan and click OK

Just some thoughts. Hope this helps.

Hi Dale,

I also followed your advice and did exactly what you recommended, however
when I view Resource Assignments in the Resource Centre I'm still getting the
list of projects which have been closed even after I change the booking type
to proposed.

How can I get a view here with only the current projects displayed?

Kind regards
Ris

I also tried what you wrote, but my concern is that resources can still
create new tasks and under that same project from the "create new task
option" in PWA.

Any advise?

To begin with, I would question why team members are creating new tasks in
completed projects. After the project is closed, this type of behavior
might show that your organization needs to create a support project to track
the "after project" work from the original project.

Regardless, I would recommend you make this a training and performance
issue. Teach your team members not to create new tasks in a completed
project, and then hold them accountable for this behavior.

If the method of archiving projects that I propose won't work for you, the
alternative would be to save the project as an .mpp file, delete it from the
Project Server database, and then import it into an archive Project Server
instance. You would need to use the EditSite tool to create the new
instance. Hope this helps.

Dale - thanks for all your help on this so far - sorry it's been along time
learning. I do have a question about one of my projects. I put all the
resources as proposed and it published new and changed assignments. One of
the tasks in the project still shows up on everyone's timesheets? Any ideas?

thanks again
